Is a career in big data in your future? There’s a growing need for professionals who know how to design and build platforms to organize and analyze the gigantic amount of data available today. In this online noncredit course, you’ll learn about the latest technological developments in big data and apply big data concepts to real-world problems.
What You’ll Do
- Learn essential concepts of big data engineering, including distributed data storage and processing for analytical and streaming applications
- Understand data stacks, their uses, advantages and limitations
- Learn the background of distributed systems, relational databases and key-value stores
- Use SQL and NoSQL and understand the pros and cons of batch processing versus in-memory versus massively parallel processing
- Get familiar with the latest available tools for data management, data access, governance and integration, operations and security

Format and Schedule
This is an online course. The suggested duration is five or 10 weeks. It includes 20 hours of synchronous instruction time and 10 hours of asynchronous learning. Live class sessions meet weekdays, one or two days per week.
This course can also be offered as an in-person, F-1 visa eligible classroom experience if you'd like.
